A Decent Remote · Effective August 28, 2026

A Decent Remote ("the app") is a TV remote control app for iPhone. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. The short version: there are no accounts, we never sell your data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do collect limited analytics, purchase, diagnostic and support information to operate and improve the app.

Information stored on your device only

To control your TVs, the app stores pairing details locally on your iPhone (in the iOS Keychain): your TVs' network addresses, names, models and pairing keys. Pairing keys stay on your device. TV names, models, local network addresses and MAC addresses can be included in diagnostic reports as described below. Stored TV information is deleted when you remove a TV from the app.

Local network access

The app talks directly to TVs on your own Wi-Fi network to discover and control them. This traffic stays on your network. iOS asks for your permission before the app can do this.

Usage analytics

The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This includes product interactions such as discovery, pairing, remote-control features, paywall views and purchase state; your TV's brand, model and operating system; app and phone information; Apple Ads campaign attribution; locale and timezone; and a random per-install identifier. Analytics never includes what you type with the remote keyboard or what you watch. Firebase's own privacy practices are described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Diagnostics and support

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics and a private developer Slack channel to diagnose crashes, connection problems and unsuccessful setup attempts. Reports can include connection traces, private IP and MAC addresses, Wi-Fi/subnet information, app version, phone model and iOS version, locale and timezone, the random per-install identifier, TV brand/model/firmware, and recent fixed remote actions such as "power" or "volume up". Manual-IP setup can send a report automatically when that troubleshooting flow is used. Diagnostic reports never include the content typed with the remote keyboard; only the action and, where useful, its length are recorded.

Feedback forms can send the TV details, service, message and optional reply email that you choose to provide. Because an email can be included alongside a diagnostic identifier, that support report can be linked to you. Do not include information you do not want the developer to receive.

Approximate location

For a small number of paywall and purchase diagnostics, the app may use the device's public IP address with the ipwho.is service to derive a country and city. The app does not request GPS access or collect precise location.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment card or banking details. The app processes StoreKit purchase status on-device and records the purchased plan or restore state for entitlement and product analytics.

What we don't do

Who is responsible (data controller)

The data controller for the limited data described above is Klaus Jakobsen, Denmark, reachable at devjakobsen@gmail.com. Google Firebase, Slack, ipwho.is, Apple StoreKit and Apple Ads services process limited information for the purposes described above. Processing is based on operating the service, responding to requests and the legitimate interest in measuring, securing and improving the app, subject to applicable privacy law.

Your rights (EU/GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal data concerning you, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because the app has no accounts, we usually cannot link any stored data to you unless you provide an email or the diagnostic identifier shown in a report; if you contact us with the relevant details we will do what is technically possible. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority; in Denmark that is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk).

Data retention

Diagnostic and support messages are kept in private developer systems only while reasonably needed to investigate issues and improve the app, then deleted when no longer needed. Analytics and crash data follow the retention settings configured for the Firebase project. Apple retains purchase records under its own policies.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

You can deny or revoke Local Network access in iOS Settings at any time, although the app cannot control TVs without it. You can avoid sending optional contact information by leaving the email and message fields empty. To object to processing or request deletion of support, diagnostic or analytics data, contact us below and include your diagnostic identifier when available.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
